James Daniel Jordan is an American politician who has served as the United States Representative for Ohio’s 4th congressional district since 2007. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Early life and education

James Daniel Jordan was born on February 17, 1964 in Troy, Ohio, United States. He is the son of Shirley and John Jordan and has one sibling, Jeff Jordan. Jordan grew up in Champaign County, Ohio.

He attended Graham High School, where he was a very successful wrestler. He won the state championship all four years and compiled a win-loss record of 156–1.

After graduating from high school, Jordan enrolled at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he became a two-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion. Jordan graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Career

Jim Jordan began his career as a college wrestler and wrestling coach. He was an assistant coach for the Ohio State University wrestling program from 1987 to 1995. Jordan was a two-time NCAA national champion wrestler and a former collegiate wrestling coach.

Jordan was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in November 1994 and served three terms in the 85th Ohio House district. He then went on to represent Ohio’s 4th congressional district, which includes Lima, Mansfield, Marysville, Marion and parts of Columbus.

During his time in Congress, Jordan was a critic of former House Speaker John Boehner, who resigned under pressure from the conservative Libertarian Party in 2015.

Jordan was the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee from 2019 to 2020 before becoming the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, which he became chairman of in 2023.

Jordan is considered a close ally of former president Donald Trump. During Trump’s presidency, Jordan sought to discredit investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election and organized sit-ins to stop Trump’s impeachment hearings.
