Early life
Jim Rohn was born in the old town of Yakima, Washington, on September 17, 1930.
He is the only child of Emmanuel Rohn and Claire Rohn.
His family owned one of the largest farms in Yakima in the 1990s, not far from Jim Rohn’s home.
Farming is Jim Rohn’s primary source of livelihood, so he shares the responsibility of managing the farm with family members and relatives who benefit from the farm’s produce.
Jim Rohn’s father lived an exemplary life of hard work and productivity. Jim’s success can be credited to the legacy his father lived.
Education
Jim Rohn started his elementary school education at a local school to gain knowledge of good conventions. He was admitted to high school after completing elementary school, remaining in his hometown but dropped out after a few years.
According to him, the reason he dropped out of school was because he did not gain the knowledge he desired.
However, he still entered university a few years later but dropped out in his first year to pursue “a better course”.
Career
Jim Rohn began his professional career as a human resources manager for a department store called Sears, just one year after he left college.
A friend invited him to attend a lecture by famous businessman John Earl Shoaff and gave a lecture during this time. In 1955, Jim Rohn joined John Shoaff’s direct selling company AbundaVita as a distributor.
Two years later, Jim Rohn resigned as a distributor at AbundaVita and immediately joined Nutri-bio, another direct selling company.
Recognizing Jim Rohn’s growing success, John Shoaff, along with the company founders, took it upon himself to mentor Jim Rohn when he was young.
After months of mentoring, he demonstrated the results of his mentoring by building one of the largest organizations in the company by 1960. Nutri-bio expanded its headquarters to Canada, where John Shoaff and other shareholders selected Jim Rohn as vice president of the organization.
A few years later, Nutri-bio went bankrupt due to organizational reasons. However, the loss of the company was a boon for Jim when he was invited as a guest speaker for a rotary club, where he gave an excellent presentation.
This prompted him to participate in many public speaking engagements, luncheons, and special events. He presented his first public seminar in 1963 at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
He began holding seminars across the United States, sharing his personal experiences and lecturing on his development philosophy.
After each seminar, his confidence grew and helped him become one of the most famous and loved speakers in the country.
Jim Rohn was the recipient of the prestigious 1985 National Speakers Association CPAE Award for Excellence in Speaking. He is also responsible for 17 books, audio and video media. Some of them are The Power Of Ambition, Take Charge Of Your Life, The Day That Turns Your Life Around and many other bestsellers.
Many of his inspirational and effective speeches are available on the internet for free download and can also be streamed on social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram.
Personal life
Jim Rohn’s height is around 5 feet 5 inches and his weight is 60 kg. He was married to Judy Rohn Yvonne from 1972 to 1984. This marriage gave birth to two beautiful daughters.
Jim Rohn has passed away. He died of pulmonary fibrosis in the winter of December 5, 2009, in West Hills, California, United States. He is buried deep in Forest Lawn Memorial Park located in Glendale, California.
