early life
Johannes Carl Stemet was born on February 9, 1952 in Springbok. He grew up in Kleinzi, a diamond mining town on the west coast of Namaqualand, South Africa. There are no valid details about his parents and siblings.

After graduating from university, Johan Stemet was employed as a school teacher and taught languages and history at Rondebosch Boys’ High School in 1974. He was also the head of the Afrikaans First Language Department.
After that, he decided to quit the education sector and enter the entertainment industry.
In 1980, he started producing and presenting different programmes for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. After 10 years with the South African Broadcasting Corporation, Johan Stemmet and his friend Johan van Rensburg launched one of the longest-running television programmes in South Africa, called Noot vir Noot.
Johan Stemmet also produced a game show called “A Word Or 2” in 1997. The show aired on SABC2 for nearly a decade. He is also the brains behind the show “Wise Up”; an educational game show aired on SABC2.
He has also produced other television shows such as Fly to Dear Country, a documentary inspired by his love for flying autogyros.
Johan Stemmet has released several very popular songs in the past. His music career was very successful. In 19 years (1980-1999), he released 12 albums.
After releasing his twelfth studio album, John Stemet took a seven-year break; in 2006 he returned with Inspirational Songs.
The song achieved record-breaking results. It quickly topped the charts and became the most streamed song in South Africa. In less than a week, the song sold 14,000 copies.
