Early life
Jon Gruden was born on August 17, 1963 in Ohio, United States. His full name is Joe David Gruden. His father is a professional football coach. His family is of Slovenian origin. His parents are Jay and Kathy Gruden. He also has a sibling named Jay Gruden.
He completed his high school education at Clay High School in Indiana. He then attended Muskingum College in Ohio to earn his bachelor’s degree. After one year at Muskingum College, he transferred to the University of Dayton and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications.
Career
After graduating from the University of Dayton, Gruden was hired as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Tennessee for one year. He then spent two years as quarterbacks coach at Southeast Missouri State University.
He was then hired as an offensive assistant at Pacific University by Walt Harris, with whom Gruden had previously worked as a graduate assistant. In March 1991, he became the wide receivers coach at the University of Pittsburg.
At the age of 28, he was offered a job as a special offensive assistant for the Green Bay Packers. One of his former bosses hired him for the position. He worked with the Packers for three years and then moved to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jon Gruden worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee, where he met his wife, Cindy Gruden, who was a student at the university at the time. She is a philanthropist, lecturer, and cheerleader.
