White was born in Fritch, Texas on December 18, 1956, to Barbara Joan Craig and Charles Don White. He went on to serve in the Army at the age of 17 and served on the salvage and rescue ship USS Conserver at the end of the Vietnam War.
He always wanted to be a comedian. He lived briefly in Mexico and bought a pottery studio there, then returned to the United States to pursue a comedy career.

White toured from January 2000 to March 2003 with comedians Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy, and Jeff Foxworthy as part of the Blue-Collar Comedy Tour. The show sold out across the United States in over 85 cities and grossed $15 million.
White also made guest appearances on Blue Collar TV and even launched his own show, The Ron White Show on the WB Television Network. White has also filmed several episodes and appeared as a celebrity judge on The Gong Show with Dave Attell.
