Jonathan Owens was born on July 22, 1995 in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Owens played high school football at Cristian Brothers College under Coach Scott Pingle after attending high school at Loyola Academy of St. Louis.
He won CBC Defensive Player of the Year during his high school career. Jonathan Owen played defensive back for Missouri Western State University during his junior year in 2013, and in his senior season in 2017, he won MWSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
