Josh Dallas was born on December 18, 1981, in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. He is one of three children of his parents. His mother is Diana Raymond and his father is Robert Michael Dallas II.

Josh Dallas considered Errol Flynn as an inspiration and watched his films to prepare for the role (Stan Lee conceived the character based on Errol Flynn in 1965).
