Joshua Maponga was born on July 6, 1969.

Joshua Maponga was taken to court by several LGBT rights groups in 2018 for making anti-LGBT allegations in January of that year.
He declared “homosexuals are lower than animals.” The bishop was taken to the Port Elizabeth Equalities Court after making the statement.
He admitted that while he may have gone too far with this statement, he saw no need to be hung on the cross and forced to amend the Bible or church regulations, according to his own words.
Joshua Maponga was taken to court by the South African Human Rights Commission for what he said. He said it on January 13 during a service at the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, KwaMagxaki.
According to the Zimbabwean Observer on July 27, 2020, this prominent pastor has been suspended from his ministry by the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA). Joshua Maponga is an advocate of decolonization of the Christian faith.
He claimed that the work depicted a white Jesus and a white society, and that the Christian savior was not a caricature of colonial Christianity.
The church expressed concerns about the content of Pastor Joshua Maponga’s gospel and the way it was communicated in a letter signed by Michael Rugube Ngwaru.
