McManus has enjoyed great success at the Cheltenham Festival and the Grand National. Former champion jockey Jonjo O’Neill trains a number of his horses at Jackdaws Castle, which McManus owns. In 2010, McManus’ horse Don’t Push It, ridden by AP McCoy and trained by O’Neill, won the prestigious Grand National hurdle.
More recently, McManus has enjoyed a number of Grand National victories. In 2021, his horse Minella Times, ridden by Rachael Blackmore and trained by Henry de Bromhead, won the race. In 2024, McManus won his third Grand National with his horse I Am Maximus, ridden by Paul Townend and trained by Willie Mullins.
Throughout his career, McManus was a major shareholder in Manchester United Football Club. However, his stake was bought out by Malcolm Glazer in 2005. Nevertheless, JP McManus remains one of the most successful and influential racehorse owners of his generation.
