Judas Priest’s Rob Halford Praises Taylor Swift, More Pop Icons, and Defends His Love of Music

Judas Priest lead singer Rob Halford recently admired pop artists and revealed his favorites – including which song he would listen to as he lay dying.

Emphasizing his belief in the limitless nature of music, the 73-year-old heavy metal icon said he “doesn’t believe in barriers”.

Halford shared insights into his current musical preferences during a recent conversation with the Houston Chronicle amid the now-cancelled Judas Priest concert in Sugar Land, Texas.

The interviewer asked about pop artists he likes to listen to, replying: “Chappell is amazing. I liked (Lady) Gaga immediately. Her talent is extraordinary. And she said she He’s a huge fan of Chappell.”

“The way the torch is passed from performer to performer, artist to artist, it’s a wonderful thing to do.”

He also spoke about the enduring success of pop icons: “What’s remarkable about people like Gaga or Taylor Swift is their longevity.”

“They’re called pop artists. Is that the right word to call them? … But pop music, as far as I can remember, for the most part, and don’t get me wrong here, it’s almost indispensable because there’s so much of it.”

“It’s a beautiful expression. Like catching fireflies. Pop songs can be so loud and you’ll never hear them again.”

“But then you have a Madonna, a Cher or a Gaga, or hopefully a Chappell or a Taylor Swift. The way they make their music, it becomes immortal.”

The 2022 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame confidently declared that he might even survive his final moments to the sounds of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi.”

Halford, who came out as gay in 1998, added, “I don’t know if it’s because I’m a gay man or not and I just have joy and love for all things creative and artistic.” art, I absorbed it.”

This comes amid Judas Priest announcing that their scheduled show alongside Sabaton at the Smart Financial Center in Sugar Land, Texas, has been canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
