Judge orders prosecutors to address media leaks

Sean “Diddy” Combs has won a legal victory in his ongoing fight to stop the publication of what he believes are leaks about his upcoming trial.

First, a federal judge ordered prosecutors to submit sworn statements that they were not the source of the leaked information.

According to AllHipHop, the order was issued by U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian on December 2 and prosecutors have until December 4 to comply.

It comes shortly after Diddy’s legal representatives accused the feds and prosecutors of leaking case details to the press, causing prejudiced media coverage that Diddy said he was putting his right to a fair trial at risk.

One allegation is that someone involved in the case leaked a surveillance video from 2016 showing Diddy attacking his ex-girlfriend Casandra Ventura.

Prosecutors have strongly denied those claims, calling Diddy’s assertions “strawjacking.”

They contended there was no evidence of any violation of law by the grand jury and said the 2016 video originated from entities unrelated to the federal investigation.

Prosecutors also cited the need to protect victims and witnesses from intimidation or tampering for reasons of not disclosing specific information.

Diddy had previously requested a more sweeping gag order, but on October 25, Judge Subramanian denied that request. Although the court limited the release of sensitive grand jury material, it still did not substantiate allegations of prosecutorial misconduct.

Subramanian said:

“This order is intended to ensure that all parties involved in this case know what information cannot be disclosed. It is important to note that this order does not imply any wrongdoing has occurred ; the court has not yet made any findings regarding the defendant.” complaints about information leaks.”
