Early life

John Charles Julian Lennon was born in Liverpool, England, on April 8, 1963, to John Lennon and Cynthia Powell. His paternal grandmother, Julia Lennon, died five years before his birth.

He was therefore named after her. Ruthin School, an independent boarding school in Ruthin, Denbighshire, North Wales, was where John Lennon was educated. “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and “Good Night,” which The Beatles’ White Album includes, were inspired by John Lennon’s father, John. He saw the set of The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour in 1967 when he was four years old.

Julian’s parents separated when he was five years old due to his father’s affair with multimedia artist Yoko Ono and in 1969, John Lennon married Yoko Ono. Sean Lennon is Julian’s half-brother.

Julian Lennon had little contact with his father after his parents’ divorce until the 1970s when he visited his father regularly at the invitation of his father’s then-girlfriend.

For Christmas 1973, John Lennon gave him a Gibson Les Paul guitar and a drum machine, and showed him some chords to spark his interest in music.

Music career

Julian Lennon first appeared on his father’s solo album Walls and Bridges when he was just eleven years old. Julian Lennon released his first solo album, Valotte, in 1984.

His next two albums were Photograph Smile and Everything Changes. Julian was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist for songs like “Too Late for Goodbyes”.

Film

Stand By Me: A Portrait Of Julian Lennon chronicles John Lennon’s first solo tour, which took place in 1985. Imagine John Lennon, Chuck Berry: Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll, The Rolling Stones’ Rock and Roll Circus, Cannes Man and Leaving Las Vegas.

These are just a few of the other films Lennon has appeared in. Julian also voiced Toby the Teapot in the animated show The Real Story of I’m a Little Teapot, as well as the title character in the animated film David Copperfield.

Lennon also produced WhaleDreamers, an award-winning documentary that premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. In 2018, Lennon served as executive producer on the documentary Women of the White Buffalo.

Photography

After documenting his half-brother Sean’s music tour in 2007, Julian Lennon developed a strong passion for photography, with the help of longtime friend and photographer Timothy White.

He organized an exhibition of 35 photographs titled “Timeless: The Photography of Julian Lennon” in 2010. Among the photos were those of his brother Sean and Bono, the lead singer of U2.

Julian Lennon is an avid Instagram user. Julian is the first fine art photographer to be exhibited at the new Aston Martin Residences Miami gallery, opening in 2021.

In 2012, his “Alone” collection was exhibited at Art Basel Miami Beach to raise funds for The White Feather Foundation. The Emmanuel Fremin Gallery in New York and the Leica Gallery in Los Angeles both exhibited Lennon’s “Horizons” and “Cycle” collections.

Book

Touch the Earth, Heal the Earth, and Love the Earth are Lennon’s New York Times bestselling trilogy, begun in 2017 and completed in 2019. In 2021, Lennon and co-author Bart Davis released The Morning Tribe.

“I like to sit on the top of the mountain and look out. I don’t think about anything but the people I care about and the view. Dad could talk about peace and love to the whole world, but he could never give it to the people who meant the most to him: his wife and son.”
