Katy Perry’s ‘143’ score is lowest on Metacritic since 2011, lowest ever for a female artist

Katy Perry’s latest album, “143,” has received its lowest overall score since 2011 on Metacritic.

The mother of one also faced unimpressive reviews when lead single “Woman’s World” failed to make much of a splash.

On Metacritic, which assigns numerical ratings to various forms of entertainment, such as music, movies, and television shows, by aggregating weighted scores from expert critics, “143” has a score of 34.

According to AllMusic’s review, “143 is Perry’s death knell for no other reason than it commits the ultimate pop sin: it’s boring”.

NME also said of Perry’s latest release, “A record that sometimes hits the mark but rarely leaves a lasting impression.”

The LA Times wrote, “The problem for Perry is that these songs are bad, and not even fun. ‘143’ is a strangely cold dance-pop album with boring melodies, utilitarian beats and vocal performances that feel vaguely AI-generated.”

Reddit users have engaged in a heated discussion about the poor performance of Perry’s latest album, with many users agreeing to call her a champion of the “art of failure.”

One user wrote, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone as famous as KP fail so miserably,” while another said, “She’s seen it herself, it’s amazing. She’s always reinventing the art of failure. Has reached a level of failure I’ve never known.”

Another user explained that Perry’s failure served as a humorous commentary on the evolution of pop music over the past decade. Her previous album, “Prism,” came during a transitional period when popular artists like Beyonce, with her self-titled album, and Taylor Swift, with “1989,” were redefining their musical styles and approaches to pop.

“Each of these artists now has new and innovative music to their sound or skill set while still connecting to the music they’ve made before – while Katy puts out lazy pop that’s basically identical in tone and style. It’s a shame and I actually like the people she thinks will unintentionally consume her waste by refusing to play music.”

Another user agreed, saying, “Despite her constant bad decisions, Katy’s string of failures only started because of her lack of adaptability or real understanding of pop music.”

“She was really solid in one style at a time when that style was popular, but as things changed, it seemed like she wasn’t able to change with it.”

When a user asked, “Wait – her lowest album, or lowest of any album since 2011??”, the OP commented, “Overall lowest since 2011 and seems to be the lowest ever by a female artist.”

On the other hand, one individual expressed that there were many bad albums. However, the most notable fault pointed out was Perry’s decision to collaborate with Dr. Luke, which resulted in an unoriginal product that even her loyal supporters struggled to justify. Ultimately, the overall sentiment of the reviewers towards the album remained unchanged, with “143” being considered lacking in originality.

Another wrote, “Even without Dr. Luke, this album is still a huge miss. The AI-powered cover alone is a red flag. There are no hits. Every lyric sounds like it was written by AI.”
