Meet Keaton Ashton, Winner of the 2021 Kids Baking Championship
Speaking to Food Network, Keaton Ashton shared that he didn’t go into the competition thinking he was going to win the entire show. “My only goal was to get through the first few challenges,” Keaton told Food Network. However, baking prodigy Keaton was crowned the winner of the 2021 Kids Baking Championship. The show ran for 10 weeks, with aspiring young bakers competing for a grand prize of $25,000 and the chance to be featured in Food Network Magazine.
Keaton competed against Haylin Adams of Glasgow, Kentucky, Jonah Anderson of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Cydney Cain of Prospect Park, Pennsylvania, Andrew Clark of Madison, Mississippi, Trey Gordon of Davenport, Iowa, Beall Luu of San Jose, California, D’Von Mills of Lithonia, Georgia, Namiah Phillips of Long Beach, California, Miabella Ramirez of Katy, Texas, McKenzly Sandefer of Conway, Arizona and Nemo Tsai of Ann Harbor, Michigan.
In the finals, Keaton went head-to-head with Bella Luu and Konah Anderson. The show was filmed in Southern California in the summer of 2020. The final three weeks of the competition were very competitive, and he won the entire show with three Biome-inspired cakes.
Judges Duff Goldman and Valerie Bertinelli chose Keaton as the winner of the show because of the creativity and consistency he displayed.
With his massive $25,000 prize money, Keaton said he wants to buy a new fish tank and save the rest for college tuition. He also received a Food Network-branded baking kit and one of his original cakes is on display at Charm City Cakes Bakery.

Keaton’s mother, Michelle Ashton, was with him in Los Angeles, watching him prepare the recipes while his father, Joel, and three sisters were at home cheering him on.
“After the first couple of roasts, I actually thought he did pretty well because he handled the pressure well,” Michelle told East Idaho News. “He manages his time well and that’s a big thing about doing that show because everything is so on time. If you run out of time, your roast won’t be good.”
Even though Michelle doesn’t bake, she took her son to a baking class for his 11th birthday, which inspired him to pursue his interest in baking.
Speaking more about the experience, Michelle revealed, “Overall, it was a great experience, so great that we’ll never be able to do it again. It was very stressful but it was interesting to see how they edited the show and put it all together. I loved how Keaton was portrayed as a good kid. I felt like they showed him for who he really was.”
Michelle attended Madison High School and attended Ricks College, ISU, and BYU-Idaho.
