Keefe D remains in jail: Judge denies $750K bail in Tupac murder case, source of funds questioned

A judge expressed his reservations about the legality of a hip-hop music figure’s attempt to fund a $750,000 bond for the release of Duane “Keefe D” Davis.

Davis is awaiting trial for the 1996 murder of hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas.

According to KLAS 8 News, when considering the presentation of arguments, Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny appeared hesitant about the possibility of releasing Davis to house arrest while under electronic monitoring.

She said she intends to closely examine financial documents provided by Cash Jones, a music industry figure who has stood as Davis’ benefactor.

Judge Kierny stated: “I don’t know where the money comes from” on HipHopDX. She informed everyone present that she would rule on the suspect’s pretrial release after a thorough review of financial documents.

Davis’ attorney, Carl Arnold, issued a brief statement to the press outside the courtroom expressing optimism about a possible verdict later in the day, according to The Sun.

Davis and his legal team also expressed concerns about the adequacy of medical care he received in prison, especially in light of his previous treatment for colon cancer.

In a recent legal proceeding, Jones, also known as Wack 100, provided sworn testimony via online video connection from an undisclosed location in California.

When questioned by Arnold, Jones revealed that he transferred $112,500, or 15% of the bail amount, from his business account as a “gift” to secure Davis’ freedom.

Jones mentioned that he knew Davis. Davis, a self-proclaimed gang leader, has been held at the Clark County Detention Center since his arrest in September 2023.

“I know his son,” Jones said, referring to Davis, as reported by FOX 40. “We talked a few times. I know he is having problems with his health.”

“He’s always been a giant in our community. Especially the urban community.”

When questioned by prosecutors about whether he had entered into any contracts or financial agreements with Davis regarding a potential film or television project revolving around Davis’ portrayal of his involvement in a gang and the murder of Shakur, Jones responded twice, “Not yet.”
