Kelly Clarkson’s Cover of Chappell Roan Makes Fans Call Her ‘Best Singer of This Generation’

Miranda Lambert and Kelly Clarkson honored Chappell Roan with a cover of Roan’s song “Good Luck, Babe!”.

Both Lambert and Clarkson appeared outdoors to perform the song as part of Clarkson’s The Kelly Clarkson Show on September 24. Before performing the song, Clarkson and Lambert were very fond of Roan.

“This last album is what made me notice her,” Clarkson said of Roan. The Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princess.

“It’s delicious,” she continued.

Lambert revealed that it was her brother and husband who showed her Roan and she became a fan soon after.

“My brother and his husband were like, ‘You have to hear this.’ They introduced me to her music and I was obsessed,” she shared.

The “Run” singer revealed that she wanted to meet Roan at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month, but never got the chance.

“I just wanted to tell her she was very brave. I like anything that’s authentic,” Lambert said.

“Her voice is insane. Her range, the way she goes from head voice to chest voice,” Clarkson added.

After their kind words, the two Texans teamed up for a cover of “Good Luck, Babe!” The pair stripped down the melody and added a country twist with the addition of an acoustic guitar. Clarkson took on the high notes while Lambert took on the lower harmonies.

“I love that song! It’s such a great song!” Clarkson said after the show.

Clarkson is known for her covers of Kellyoake songs, with many commenting that her covers are better than the original versions of the songs.

However, Clarkson previously revealed that she was afraid of singing a song for the segment. Clarkson refused to cover “Despacito”.

“I just realized something. You have a song in history that I’m scared to cover, ‘Despacito.’ … And I practiced so hard, because I love singing in Spanish, or just in other languages. And it’s like the biggest song of all time. I was like, ‘You know what? I’m just going to leave it as is,'” Clarkson told Luis Fonsi, while Voice.

Over the past year, Roan has risen to fame thanks to the success of “Good Luck, Babe!” The song became her first top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is her highest-charting song to date.
