Early life and education
Kemi Badenoch, now 43, was born on 2 January 1980 in Wimbledon, London, into a middle-class Yoruba family.
Her father, Femi Adegoke, works as a general practitioner, while her mother, Feyi Adegoke, is a professor of physiology.
Badenoch spent part of her childhood living in Lagos, Nigeria and the United States, where her mother lectured. She has two siblings: an older brother named Fola and an older sister named Lola.
At the age of 16, she returned to the UK due to Nigeria’s deteriorating political and economic situation. Although a British citizen, Badenoch considers herself a first-generation immigrant.
Badenoch completed her A Levels at Phoenix College while working various jobs at McDonald’s. She studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Sussex, graduating with a Master of Engineering (MEng) in 2003.

Career
Badenoch’s political career began when she joined the Conservative Party in 2005. She stood as a Conservative candidate for the Dulwich and West Norwood constituency in the 2010 general election but was unsuccessful.
Following a vacancy, she joined the London Assembly as a Councillor in 2015. In 2017, she was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Saffron Walden in Essex.
