Who are the parents of American Ninja warrior Vance Walker?
American Ninja Warrior season 15 winner Vance Walker credits his parents Kent Walker and Stacey Walker for their support and encouragement that helped him achieve his dream over eight years. Since birth, Vance’s life has been difficult. When she was only 17 weeks pregnant, Vance’s mother went into premature labor. Before giving birth to Vance at 36 weeks, she spent months in the hospital.
Vance’s life began on the brink. Speaking to the outlet, Stacey recalled, “For so many weeks (doctors) came in and said, ‘He’s not going to make it. He won’t be able to do that. Starting at week 20, it was: ‘Okay, he can do it, but he might have brain damage. He could be blind.”
At age 1, Kent and Stacey watched their son not walk. “Initially, there was just fear of how it would affect him… and his future,” Kent added. “It’s about what we can do to help him feel ‘normal’ so he has all the same opportunities as everyone else.”
Bullies reportedly teased Vance at school because of his braces or the way he walked. While other students at his school walked in groups with their friends, Vance would walk around the track on his own. He eats lunch alone.
“People would ask him, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ That’s the biggest problem,” Stacey added. “I want to tell everyone: ‘There’s nothing wrong with him. That’s how he was created.”
But Kent and Stacey stood strong for their son so that he never stopped feeling like a normal person, despite having to live with a disease (cerebral palsy) that not many people witness and endure. And he is grateful for his wonderful parents.
“I am so grateful to have supportive parents,” Vance said Today.com. “They were by my side every step of the way, helping me get the best support, the best coaching, the best physical therapy – all the best I could get.”
Meet Kent Walker, Father Vance Walker
Vance Walker’s father as we know is named Kent Walker. He was born as Steven Kent Walker to parents Robert and Kathy Walker. His parents were married for 39 years until his father passed away on July 8, 2021.
Kent’s four siblings are named Kyle and Shellie Walker, Amy and Tim Smith, Shanin and Rick Nunley, and Ronnie and Lissa Walker.
Kent recently shared on his Facebook when Vance was born as they were approaching the ANW season 15 finale. He wrote: “In 2004, I went to Toronto to attend the Heart Failure Society of America meeting . I got a call from my mother-in-law that Stacey was going into labor and had to go home immediately. She is 17 weeks pregnant with Vance. I flew home thinking she was delivering. Luckily, they were able to stabilize her and she was hospitalized until 36 weeks. Pregnancy was very difficult.”
The post then concluded: “We knew something was wrong when Vance started trying to walk. He was diagnosed with CP at Texas Children’s Hospital and required braces. 18 years later, Vance was on ANW’s Season Finale and had the chance to win a million dollars. This young man is no stranger to obstacles!! Stay tuned next Monday to see if he makes it through stage 4 and has a chance to win.”
Talking about Vance’s father, in November 2022, Kent turned 56. He was born in 1966. He attended Klein High School and graduated from college at the University of Texas at Austin.
According to his LinkedIn, he is working as Southeast Regional Sales Manager at Travere Therapeutics.
