Early life
Khusela Diko was born in 1979 in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape to George Bizos and Masivuye Sangoni.
Her exact date of birth is unknown. Her father was a prominent lawyer and was involved in the execution of Nelson Mandela’s will.
He is the younger brother of former South African presidential judge, Themba Sangoni. Her mother, Masivuye Sangoni, is a teacher. She has two siblings and was raised in a Christian family.

Khusela Diko started with the African National Congress. She became the communications director of the African National Congress.

Khusela Diko married King Bhatia Madzikane II Thandisizwe Diko, king of the Amabhaca tribe.
The couple sealed their union in a royal wedding. Their two-day wedding began on December 14 at her home in the village of Qokolweni. The wedding was graced by hundreds of guests dressed in traditional costumes from all over South Africa.
The wedding was considered by many South African newspapers and websites to be the most beautiful traditional wedding that took place that year. On Monday, December 15, the second part of the wedding took place at the king’s house in Kwabhaca.
Many big names in the country attended the wedding, including the Minister of Public Works, Deputy Minister of Cooperative Management and Traditional Affairs, members of the African National Congress (ANC) party were also present to witness this memorable event.
Khusela Diko failed to capitalize on the public trust she was given and was implicated in the COVID-19 PPE scandal. She was placed on special leave by the president as a disciplinary action.
She had just lost her husband, King Madzikane II Thandisizwe Diko, to death.
