Early life and education
Lakeyah Danaee Robinson was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA on February 28, 2001. She formed a poetry recitation group in high school.

She started rapping at the age of 15 and was persuaded by a friend to participate in the #SoGoneChallenge competition, in which contestants were required to submit a performance of Monica’s song “So Gone” with instrumental and rap lyrics.
At the age of 16, Lakeyah joined the music duo BTM (Beyond the Music), and in 2018, their videos exceeded 1 million views on YouTube.
In late 2019, during her 18th birthday, Lakeyah went on a birthday trip to Atlanta, Georgia, where she visited and met rapper TI, and she was inspired to move to Atlanta, where she enrolled in college at the Atlanta Institute of the Arts, but dropped out after two months.

Recently, Lakeyah came out as a lesbian and is currently dating a guy from Milwaukee. This is a relatively new development, but she is very happy with her current relationship status.
Since she was a child, she always felt that she was different from others, and it was not until she became an adult that she realized her attraction to women.

After dropping out of college, Lakeyah stayed in Atlanta and became famous for the #FirstDayOutChallenge, a rap challenge celebrating City Girls rapper Jatavia Shakara Johnson (JT) after her release from prison. After the challenge, she signed to Quality Control Music and her improvisation of 42 Dugg and Lil Baby’s song We Paid went viral.
Lakeyah’s first single “Big FlexHER” featuring 42 Dugg was released on October 9, 2020. It received over 400,000 views within five days of its release and currently has over 3 million views.
Lakeyah’s first album, Time’s Up, was released on December 11, 2020. The album features a song called “Female Goat” performed by City Girls with a beat that sounds like it came from the Midwest and was produced by Detroit producer Stop Playing by Reuel. The video has been viewed over 16 million times on YouTube, making it Lakeyah’s most viewed video. In spring 2021, she was named a brand ambassador for Rihanna’s lingerie line Savage X Fenty.
Lakeyah’s second album, Due Time, was released on April 9, 2021. Gucci Mane and Yung Bleu both sang on the album. Following the release of the album, she became the fourth fastest rising new artist on Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 list, second only to Cico P.
On June 16, 2021, XXL Magazine named Lakeyah to its 2021 XXL Freshman List. This is a group of rappers that includes Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Chance the Rapper, and Megan Thee Stallion. She is the first Milwaukee rapper to be named a Freshman in XXL’s 14-year history.
