Early life and education
Travis Barker was born in Fontana, California, United States, on November 14, 1975. He was born to American parents, Gloria Barker (mother) and Randy Barker. He has two siblings; his older sister’s name is Shanna Barker.
When he was 4 years old, his mother gave him his first drum set. He kept the drum set until he was 15. He started learning drums at the age of 5 with Michael Mai, a drummer. Michael Mai introduced him to different drum routines.
When he enrolled in middle school, he began studying trumpet and piano and joined the Madrigal Boys and Girls Choir. Travis Barker also tried to become a surfer, but all efforts failed, leading him to return to drumming, which he loved so much. He talks about being able to express himself through drumming more than anything else.
Travis Barker lost his mother to Sjogren’s syndrome three months before he started high school. Before she died, she told him to be passionate about his dreams and follow his heart.
At Fontana High School, he played in the school’s marching band. He gained experience in jazz rhythms but was more drawn to hip hop and punk rock.
Career
Travis Barker graduated from Fontana High School and became a trash collector in Laguna Beach. He met the punk rock band Snot and Feeble at the beach and decided to join the band in 1993.
This is where he met Chad Larson, co-founder of the punk band The Aquabats and SKA in 1994. The band later recruited him through Chad Larson. The group then recorded The Fury of The Aquabats, produced by Jim Goodwin. The Aquabats nicknamed Travis Barker “Baron Von Tito” for reasons that are still unknown to this day.
Travis Barker’s mainstream success came from 1999 to 2004. He joined BLINK-182 in 1998. His first album with the group was Enema of The State, released in June 1999 and launched the band to stardom. What’s My Age Again, All The Small Things, and Adams’s Songs became commercial breakthroughs for Banks over the years. The songs became hits on the modern rock charts and peaked at number 6 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Travis Barker also started a popular clothing line called Stars and Straps. The clothing line was influenced by the punk rock skate community. His clothing line also reflected his love of crazy tattoos.
