Kavon London Grant – aka “Cuz” – has filed for a protective order in the federal murder-for-hire prosecution against rapper Lil Durk, saying there are major safety issues with publication public evidence.
According to AllHipHop, the motion was filed on Grant’s behalf on December 3 and asked to restrict access to documents that could endanger witnesses, victims, and defendants in the case.
Grant’s attorney, Peter C. Swarth, said more protections are needed.
“This case involves significant safety concerns regarding the release of the names and personal identifying information of victims, witnesses and defendants,” Swarth said.
That evidence includes bloody crime scene photos, autopsy documents and statements from protected witnesses. If the data is inappropriately disclosed, it could lead to retaliation or intimidation, prosecutors wrote.
The legal battle here revolves around the August 2022 killing of Saviay’a Robinson, aka Lul Pab, the cousin of rapper Quando Rondo.
Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, was charged with a murder authorities said he arranged as revenge for the killing of his friend King Von, who was shot to death in 2020 .
Federal indictments allege Durk paid bribes and arranged music to further encourage the murder of Robinson, who engaged in violent gang activity during an ongoing organized rivalry between rap groups.
The charges against Grant were brought as one of five alleged members of Durk’s Only The Family (OTF) gang, including Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey and Asa Houston. They were charged with several crimes, including conspiracy to commit murder for hire and committing violent crimes with machine guns.
According to federal investigators, OTF-labeled credit cards were also used to purchase travel and logistics related to the alleged scheme, which they are beginning to believe was a coordinated joint crime. .
The motion for a protective order illustrates the scrutiny and dangers involved in such a high-profile case. Prosecutors and defense attorneys reached an agreement to preserve evidence while allowing the defendant to fully plead before trial.
Lil Durk, arrested in South Florida in October 2024, pleaded not guilty. He is being held without bail on federal charges and faces life in prison if convicted.
A trial date has been set for January 2025.
