Lilly Saini Singh (born September 26, 1988), known professionally as Lilly Singh, is a popular Canadian YouTuber, former talk show host, and actress. She is of Indian descent and was born in Scarborough, Ontario. She began making videos on YouTube in October 2010 under the pseudonym IISuperwomanII.
The name Superwoman was already taken, so she chose the name IISuperwomanII. Her channel initially focused on humorous videos that parodied Indian culture and stereotypes.
Since then, Lilly Singh’s channel has grown to cover a wider range of topics, including mental health, relationships, and motivational speeches. As of January 2021, she has over 15 million subscribers and her videos have been viewed over 3 billion times. In 2017, Singh was ranked 10th on Forbes’ list of Top Influencers.

Early life and education
Lilly Singh was born on September 26, 1988, and raised in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her parents, Malvindar Kaur and Sukvindar Singh, Indian immigrants from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, raised her as a Sikh.
Tina Singh (born 1982) is her older sister, and she also posts YouTube videos about her family life with her husband and three sons. Lilly Singh describes her childhood self as a tomboy.
During her early school years, Lilly Singh attended Mary Shadd Public School. In 2006, she graduated from Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute in Malvern, Toronto, where she returned as an alumna to reunite with her former teachers.
Lilly Singh is a member of the Girl Guides of Canada and is involved in their youth programs. In 2010, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York University in Toronto.
Personal life
Lilly Singh is an Indian-Canadian who developed a strong connection to her Punjabi heritage while visiting India. She struggled with depression and arachnophobia and started making YouTube videos to express herself.
As a young woman, she lived in Markham, Ontario, with her parents. Lilly Singh also came out as bisexual on social media in February 2019.
She used to date Yusuf Erakat, but she never married.
Career
Lilly Singh launched her YouTube channel under the alias IISuperwomanII in October 2010. She said the term Superwoman came from a childhood fantasy that made her believe she could do anything.
She originally planned to attend graduate school as per her parents’ wishes, but instead chose to make YouTube videos and decided that if her YouTube career did not improve, she would return to graduate school.
Lilly Singh launched a second channel, SuperwomanVlogs, now called Lilly Singh Vlogs, in December 2011, where she narrated her daily activities and added behind-the-scenes footage from her videos. She used this channel as a secondary channel to upload videos until August 2014, when she started uploading vlogs. In 2011, she appeared as a backup dancer in Speedy Singhs and Thank You.
Lilly Singh appeared in Jassi Sidhu’s Punjabi song Hipshaker in August 2013. She rapped in the song Mauj Ki Malharein, which was featured in the Bollywood thriller film Gulaab Gang in August 2014.
In July of that year, she released a song called #LEH featuring her friend, novelist and rapper Kanwer Singh, who goes by the stage name Humble the Poet. Lilly Singh made a cameo appearance in the 2014 Canadian film Dr. Cabbie.
Her channel was ranked #39 on New Media Rockstars’ Top 100 Channels in 2014. She was nominated for a Shorty Award and a Streamy Award the same year.
She won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite YouTube Star in January 2017. Lilly Singh won her fourth Streamy Award in September 2017. On March 28, 2017, her debut book, How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life, was released.
The book debuted at the top of the New York Times bestseller list. At the 2017 Goodreads Choice Awards, Lilly Singh won the award for Best Nonfiction Book. Her 2017 world tour revolved around the publication of her book and the key issues she highlighted. A follow-up book titled Be A Triangle was released on April 5, 2022.
After filming an audition outside an internet cafe in Melbourne, Australia, Lilly Singh was cast in HBO’s adaptation of Fahrenheit 451. She was in the area to promote her book and rushed to the audition around 2 a.m. in May 2017 at the urging of her agent.
Her character is Raven, a “tabloid blogger who teams up with the fire department to spread department propaganda by publicizing book-burning raids to her followers.”
