Simbiatu Simbi Abisola Abiola Ajikawo (born 23 February 1994), better known as Little Simz, is a talented British rapper, singer, songwriter and actor of Nigerian descent.

She rose to fame after releasing her first three albums, A Curious Tale of Trials + Persons (2015), Stillness in Wonderland (2016) and Grey Area (2019), all independently. Grey Area was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and won Best Album at the Ivor Novello and NME Awards.

Little Simz’s fourth album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, was acclaimed by critics and named the greatest album of 2021 by several magazines. She also won the Libera Award for Best Hip-Hop/Rap Album and the 2022 Brit Award for Best New Artist for the album.

Early life and education

Little Simz was born to Nigerian parents in Islington, London on February 23, 1994. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ajikawo and she has three siblings.

She grew up in government housing with her two sisters. Her mother also took care of foster children during her childhood. She is of Yoruba descent.

Sims attended Highbury Fields School in London before attending St Mary’s Youth Club in Upper Street, Islington, alongside pop artists Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke.

Little Simz began her acting career in 2010 as Vicky on the BBC children’s show Spirit Warriors and Meleka on the E4 TV show Youngers. She was the narrator of the Afrofuturism TV show and played Shelley in the third season of Netflix’s Top Boy, which premiered in autumn 2019. She performed her song “Venom” in a nightclub and appeared as herself in the Sony/Marvel film Venom – Let There Be Carnage.
