“Truth Hurts” singer Lizzo faced the upheaval of her career last year, when several of her former dancers filed legal complaints regarding the way she treated them. Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez allege that Lizzo continued to sexually and racially harass them, creating a hostile work environment.
“Let’s be clear that I did nothing wrong,” Lizzo said, breaking her silence on the lawsuit. The singer noted that she had admired her dancers in the past, adding: “These are people – I like them and appreciate them as dancers, respect them as dancers. So I thought, ‘What?’ But then I hear all these other things like sexual harassment, and I think, they’re trying so hard, I don’t know what they’re trying to do, but these are things that the media can turn into. something that isn’t so.”
She added that while the “silly” statements certainly had an impact on her mental health, she has “no regrets” and carried the experience with her on her journey to becoming a boss move forward.
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleges that Lizzo pressured her backup dancers to touch nude performers at an Amsterdam club and generally made them look bad. tiger. They also claim that Lizzo’s Big Grrrl touring company subjected them to racial harassment by allegedly “treating Black members of the dance team differently than other members.” Lizzo denies all claims. The case has been on hold since March, after Lizzo appealed the judge’s decision, which largely rejected her attempt to have the case dismissed under California’s anti-SLAPP statute, according to Billboard.
Lizzo also denied the claims of former clothing stylist Asha Daniels, who sued her just a month later. Daniels alleges that while the singer preached body positivity, staff were forced to work in a “racist and sexualized environment”.
Daniels told NBC News in September 2023: “I have seen myself, my dancers, my background singers and my local team in every city being routinely harassed and bullied ”.
Lizzo has somewhat revived her image when fans praised her remarkable weight loss as well as her recent appearance on Kai Cenat’s live broadcast which was well received.
