The game uses a third-person perspective, giving players a perspective behind the character. Additionally, players can choose to play cooperatively with friends and participate in player-versus-player multiplayer battles. The world of the game is very fascinating and consists of two levels: the world of the living (Axiom) and the world of the dead (called Umbral). A unique magical lantern allows players to transition between these realms. If dying, the player is teleported to Umbral and must return to Axiom to regain lost experience points.
However, dying in the shadows results in the loss of unused experience points. Save points are scarce in each area, but players can craft their own using materials collected from shadow creatures. Lords of the Fallen offers an immersive experience filled with elements of exploration, combat, and strategy in a challenging and mysterious world.
