Early life and education
Luis Díaz, a member of the Wayuu indigenous community, was born in Barrancas, La Guajira, Colombia, on January 13, 1997. His passion for football began at the age of six, when his father, Luis Manuel Díaz, took on the role of his first coach.
Growing up in a supportive family, Luis Díaz was also surrounded by his mother, Cilenis Marulanda, and two siblings named Roger David Diaz and Jësüs Manuel Díaz.
During his pursuit of education, Luis Díaz earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the prestigious university. University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine.
Career
Luis Díaz began his football career with Barranquilla in the Colombian Second Division before moving to Atlético Junior, where he won the Categoría Primera A, winning the Copa Colombia and the Superliga Colombiana.
In 2019, he joined Porto for €7 million, achieving success in Portugal with a double in the Primeira Liga and Taça de Portugal and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira championship.
Liverpool signed Díaz in January 2022 for €45 million, where Luis Díaz made his debut in February in a 3–1 win over Cardiff City. In April, he scored his first goal for Liverpool against Manchester United, sealing a 2–0 win. His debut season was filled with victories in the EFL and FA Cup, culminating in a stellar performance in the FA Cup final.
Luis Díaz’s international record has been equally impressive, with 39 appearances and eight goals for Colombia. The 2021 Copa América saw him share the Golden Boot with Lionel Messi as Colombia finished third.
On 19 August 2023, Luis Díaz, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota scored in a 3–1 win. However, the match was marred by injuries to Luis Díaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold and a red card to Alexis Mac Allister.
