At the start of a round, players place cards face down in randomly assigned locations, each with a different effect. When a card is revealed, the card’s special ability triggers, and the player with the highest power in a certain position wins. Winning two of the three locations guarantees victory in the game, which spans six rounds and increases the power-up to obtain more powerful cards.
Players advance up the rankings by earning “cubes,” which double their bets on the player’s presses, reminiscent of backgammon’s doubling cubes. Marvel Snap’s gameplay has been praised for its simplicity compared to other trading card games, with individual games lasting several minutes. The game launched globally with over 170 characters, with new characters added every week.
Marvel Snap offers cosmetic variations of cards via in-game purchases or seasonal rewards, featuring alternative art from famous artists like Rian Gonzales and Kim Jacinto. As of January 2023, there are over 1,000 different variations available, enhancing the game’s visual appeal.
