The Pochettino family is of Italian origin, originating from Piedmont. Growing up, he had an older brother named Javier Pochettino. Showing a passion for sports from an early age, Mauricio pursued higher education and earned a master’s degree in sports management from a prestigious business school.

Career
Mauricio Pochettino began his illustrious playing career at Newell’s Old Boys, where he demonstrated his exceptional talent and made a significant contribution to the team’s victory in the Argentine Primera División in 1991. Following his success in Argentina, Pochettino moved to Spain in 1994 and signed for Espanyol, where he left an indelible mark over the next six seasons.
During his tenure at Espanyol, Pochettino played a key role in their glorious Copa del Rey triumph in 2000 and helped them finish runners-up in the Copa del Rey in 2006, further cementing their status as a formidable force on the pitch.
After his time at Newell’s Old Boys, Mauricio Pochettino continued his playing career by joining Paris Saint-Germain from 2001 to 2003 and then Bordeaux from 2003 to 2004. However, he decided to return to Espanyol for a second time in 2004. Pochettino finally hung up his boots in 2006 at the age of 34, marking the end of his professional playing career.
Pochettino’s managerial journey began in 2009 at Espanyol. He led the club to a respectable 10th place in his first season. In the following two seasons, Pochettino continued to excel, leading Espanyol to consecutive 11th and eighth places.
Mauricio Pochettino has enjoyed incredible success since taking over as Tottenham Hotspur manager in 2014. He led the team to a respectable third-place finish in his first season, followed by two consecutive second-place finishes.
Under his leadership, Tottenham also reached their first FA Cup final in a decade in 2016 and reached their first UEFA Champions League final in 2019. Despite these achievements, Pochettino was sacked in November 2019 following a disappointing start to the season.
Paris Saint-Germain appointed Pochettino as coach in January 2021. In his first six months in charge, he led the team to second place in Ligue 1. In addition, he achieved the Ligue 1 championship title in his first full season as coach.
Unfortunately, PSG terminated his contract in June 2022 due to failure to win the UEFA Champions League. In July 2023, Mauricio Pochettino was appointed as Chelsea’s head coach. He is the club’s first Argentine coach.
On 7 October 2023, it was reported that Bashir Humphreys, currently on loan at Chelsea, had revealed that several club members had expressed a desire to keep him for the ongoing season.
On Swansea City’s official Twitter page, Humphreys mentioned that one of these individuals is Mauricio Pochettino. Pochettino believes that Humphreys would benefit from remaining at Stamford Bridge and learning from the experienced players already there.
