Mayorkun sues TikTok Influencer Nicki DaBarbie for N1 billion defamation claim

Popular Nigerian musician, Adewale Emmanuel, aka Mayorkun, has taken legal action against TikTok influencer, Precious Kingsley, aka Nickie DaBarbie, filing a N1 billion lawsuit for defamation .

The lawsuit comes after Nickie DaBarbie accused Mayorkun and fellow singer Skiibii of being involved in paranormal activities, accusing them of trying to exploit her for ritual purposes. She claimed to have narrowly escaped death after praying fervently.

In response to these allegations, Mayorkun’s legal team, Monarchs & Stroud Law Practitioners, prepared a letter outlining the defamatory nature of Nickie DaBarbie’s statements. The letter, signed by Oluwagbemiga Ogunlade Associates and Founding Partner Kolawole Hassan, addressed the dire consequences of her allegations on Mayorkun’s reputation and emotional well-being.

The letter demands that Nickie DaBarbie remove the offensive posts from all of her social media platforms within 24 hours, issue both a video and written apology for publication in two national newspapers, and stop publishing make any further defamatory comments. Additionally, Mayorkun seeks compensation in the form of monetary payment of not less than N1 billion for the emotional pain caused by her actions.

Mayorkun vehemently denies Nickie DaBarbie’s allegations, asserting that they are baseless, false and damaging to his character and career. The proceedings underlined the seriousness with which he took the defamation of his reputation.

As the legal battle rages on, the music industry and social media landscape await further developments in this high-profile case.
