The charges against Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter, stem from a civil lawsuit in which the victim, identified as Jane Doe, accused him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of drugging and assaulted her at a 2000 MTV VMAs afterparty.
The victim said she was lied to by a driver who allegedly worked for Combs, who told her she fit what the rapper was “looking for.” Instead of visiting the awards show, she said she was taken to an after-party where she signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before the alleged assault.
Carter has denied these allegations, calling them “heinous in nature” and urged the accuser to file criminal charges if they are legitimate in a statement shared on Sunday, December 9 .
“What he calculated was that the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to deal with them,” the 55-year-old said. “No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose your fraud in a very public way,” Carter said via his Roc Nation statement, referring to attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents represents women.
The “Run This Town” rapper then added that his only pain lies with his family: “My husband and I will have to sit still for our children, one of whom is at an age where our friends will certainly see the press and inquire into the nature of these statements and explain human cruelty and greed.”
Carter also expressed sympathy for “real victims” who have been taken advantage of because of their life stories. He also revealed that Buzbee made a “terrible error of judgment” by generalizing about famous people. “I look forward to showing you how different I am,” he added.
Meek Mill’s comments attracted mixed reactions online.
Some users, like @mayortae, supported him and said: “He’s right, programming is very real. You all are too programmed to realize that 💯.” Others criticized his approach, with @kinfolk_kiashine writing, “Be gentle for the love of God. be quiet!” and @charneyj_ added, “Meek, you have to learn to stop talking about everything!” Meanwhile, @mosth8ted_lonnn pointed out: “People will ignore texts because they text 😂 please do better ‼️.”
However, Mill’s supporters echo his views on the role of the media in shaping stories. “Exactly!” @jacobyork wrote, while @thereal_nova9 commented: “When you understand how powerful numerology and programming are then you will understand. The number 13 is very powerful.”
