It was 1993 when AND1 began as a graduate school collaboration between Jay Coen Gilbert, Seth Berger, and Tom Austin.
The trio launched their brand by selling bad-mouth apparel before finding success in the sneaker and street basketball business. It eventually became a huge hit and began recruiting more and more NBA players to wear their products. By the 2001 season, just eight years after its founding, they had become the second-largest basketball brand in the United States, and there was much more to come. But, the founders suddenly sold everything in 2005.
According to Netflix’s Untold: The Rise and Fall of AND1Jay has run the product as well as the marketing departments of AND1 for most of its running time.

Jay and his wife, Randi, have been together for the longest time. On October 1, 2021, they celebrated 26 years of marriage and 30 years together. According to them, on a beautiful day on October 1, 1995, they giggled their way through their vows at Appleford Villanova.
