Nick Hall hunts for bargains
Nick Hall has been a part of Bargain Hunt for over 14 years.
But he first entered the BBC world as an antiques expert with Flog it. One fateful day, he was asked to do a screen test as an expert, and a few years later, while recording a conversation between auctioneers for Bargain Hunt, they asked him if he would like to become one of their experts.
His favourite part of being on the BBC show is the excitement and drama of Auction Day. Standing on the podium, holding the hammer, with bids pouring in from the packed auction room, and countless phone and internet bids from all over the world, gives him a thrill.
So far, his most memorable co-star on the show has been Maeve the Rave. “I think Maeve in Stamford stands out, an older lady with the tenacity and spirit of someone half her age, and the cheekiness of a teenager,” he explains.
Overall, he is very proud to be a part of Bargain Hunt. He believes the show’s success is due to its engaging and charming characters, and the challenges combined with great knowledge.
Do you know: In Bargain Hunt, Nick’s biggest profit was £500 on a pair of Japanese vases (see above). And his biggest loss was probably a very crude and creepy pig chair (for killing pigs!) that sold for under £100.

At that point, he dropped out of Sixth Form College in Sussex and decided to get out into the real world, get his hands dirty and find “something interesting” to do for a living.

With no particular career direction in mind, Nick then explored a number of local businesses that “looked interesting” to see if they were hiring, including Theatres, Radio Stations and more like the local Auctioneer.
Nick is currently an Auctioneer and Valuer at Bentley’s Fine Art Auctioneers Ltd. Their auction house holds a 1000 lot auction on the first Saturday of every month. And they have sold items including a range of Antiques, 20th Century Design, Collectibles, Fine & Modern Art, Unusual Furniture and Decorative Items.
For those looking to buy, the company holds regular monthly sales throughout the year. And for those looking to sell, you can bring your items in for appraisal at The Old Granary freon Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The main benefit of working with them is that they provide free valuations for auctioned items. They also provide local pick up and delivery for items consigned for sale or for larger items purchased at Auction.
