While the stars of The Real Housewives of New Jersey are often known for having their families on the show, Margaret Josephs didn’t even talk about her son until season 13 of the show. And she had good reason for that. Her son, Spencer Josephs, “has a very serious career and doesn’t like the spotlight.”
Learn more about him below.
Meet Spencer Josephs, son of Margaret Josephs
Spencer Josephs is Margaret’s biological son, whom she shared with her late ex-husband, Jan Josephs. But because Spencer chose not to appear on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, many people believed that the boy hated his mother—which was never the case. In fact, Spencer and Margaret had a strong bond.
“Everyone says ‘your son hates you and yeah, yeah, yeah,’ all that nonsense, he’s my biological son, we’re very close, we’re always together,” Margaret said.
Additionally, in March 2021, she fired back at haters via a tweet, “I have a biological son that everyone on set knows about and we are very close. So stop making false claims about my “real kids”, my step kids are my kids too, I raised them.”
In addition to Spencer, Margaret is also very close to her husband’s children (except for his stepdaughter) whom Jan fathered. She even has a good relationship with her current husband’s two children, Joe Benigno. In her words, “My stepdaughter and I, we’re not great, but everyone else, all my sons, are wonderful, which makes me happy.”
But not long ago, Margaret regretted how her divorce from Jan had damaged her relationship with her stepchildren. “They’re holding grudges. And that doesn’t make it any easier. But deep down, I know we’ll find a way back together. I would die for them,” she said at the time.
The star also revealed that she had to negotiate with independent adults with their own livelihoods and families during the divorce process.
The internet was really harsh on her, especially because unlike many other families who stayed together for the sake of their children, hers were grown (living separately) when they divorced. But all’s well that ends well.
Spencer Josephs’ father
Spencer Josephs is the son of Jan Josephs and Margaret Josephs.
His father, Jan, was born on September 5, 1947 and breathed his last at the age of 74. He was a 1969 graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University who decided to join his father and brother in the family business Joseph’s Brothers Embroidery and dedicated his life to the company.
As for when he married Margaret, it was in 1994 when his three children (from a previous marriage) were aged 8, 14 and 16. “They needed someone to love them and I was completely obsessed with them,” Margaret said when explaining why she married him.
After becoming one of the Josephs, Margaret left to pursue a promising fashion design career to become a devoted mother. Sadly, after 17 years of being a housewife, Margaret began an affair with a contractor (her current husband Joe Benigno) who was working at her home and their marriage collapsed in 2013.
Margaret and Jan’s divorce was reportedly finalized in late 2013 with an order “to ensure that Spencer will spend reasonable time with both parties. All holidays and vacations will be divided equally and/or alternated on an equal basis.”
Neither Jan nor Margaret is required to pay child support, as they split all of Spencer’s expenses equally. This also includes Spencer’s Lexus car payments and college expenses—Jan pays for the first two years of school and Margaret pays for the second two.
Spencer Josephs Age
Spencer Josephs is believed to have been born in 1996. That would make him 27 years old in 2023.
