early life
Remi Lekun Abdulkhalid Safaru is popularly known by his stage name Reminisce. He hails from Ajilete, Nanyewa Local Government Area of Ogun State, western Nigeria. He was born on January 26, 1981, making him 43 years old.
He dreamed of becoming a rapper since he was a child. Reminisce’s family supported his plan. He worked hard to improve his skills every time.
In high school, he was interested in a variety of local and foreign music and often participated in school activities. He improved his rap skills by listening to songs by Nas, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg.

Reminisce completed his secondary education and obtained the Junior Secondary School Certificate and the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate.
After graduating from secondary school, he attended Kwara State Polytechnic to study Procurement and Supply and obtained a Higher National Diploma in Logistics.

When recalling his school days, he participated in school activities such as competitions, as well as any training related to music and entertainment.
It was one of the ways he honed his rapping talents, imitating the styles of Nas, Jay Z and Snoop Dogg.
In 2006, Reminisce recorded his first hardcore rap song with Coded Tunes Records but it was not released. Two years later, Reminisce resurfaced on 9ice’s album Gongo Aso.
His best performance was the rap part in the song “Bachelor Life” from the album. This performance put Reminisce in the spotlight. He released his first single “Ever Since” with 9ice on vocals.
This single was completely based on his life story. After some time, he released another single called “If Only”, the second single was produced by D’Tunes and we would consider it as a romantic song. His two singles paved the way for his success in the music industry.
After releasing singles, Reminisce decided to start working on an album in 2010 and released his first album, Book Of Rap Stories, in 2013 with Sarz at Edge Records Studios.
After some time, Reminisce released another amazing track “Kako Bii Chicken” and also released other songs like “If Only”, “2mussh”. “Book Of Rap Stories” is a 13 track album produced by Sarz, Legendury Beatz, Joshbeatz, Jospo and Pastor Child.
Reminisce released his second album titled Alaga Ibile on November 15, 2013. The album features Nigerian iconic artists Wizkid, Davido, Fela Kuti, Fantasi and 3rd World.
In 2015, Reminisce released his third album, Baba Hafusa. The album was the big breakthrough he had been waiting for, as it charted at number 12 on the Billboard World Music category.
Baba Hafusa’s album remained at the top of iTunes for weeks and is considered by many Nigerians to be one of the best hip-hop albums in Nigerian history.
This is due to the combination of hip-hop, fuji and afrobeats. He has also released other albums such as El-Hadj (2016) and Ponmile (2017).
Apart from releasing singles and albums, Reminisce has also done wonderful collaborations with many artistes such as: Phenom in “ASHEWO”, MI Abaga in “Shekpe”, Mr Eazi in “If E No Be God” and Dj Enimoney in “Diet”.
Reminisce is also passionate about branding. He is a brand ambassador for Samsung and Origin, a popular herbal and spirits cocktail produced by Diageo in Africa.
Reminisce also appeared in the Netflix film King of Boys.

Reminisce is married to Iya Hafusa and has two children: Hafusa Safaru and Fatimah Safaru.
