Early life
Michael Carroll was born on March 29, 1983 in Swaffham, Norfolk, United Kingdom. He was born into an average family.
His mother was a worker in a canning factory, and his father, known as Andrew Carroll, was an engineer in the Royal Air Force.
He was born into a family of three children, the only son and two sisters; Zoe Carroll and Charlene Carroll. Young Carroll faced many misfortunes, such as his father being imprisoned for 11 years for stabbing several people in a fight.
Michael Carroll was just 18 months old when this incident happened, and then, at the age of 10, his father died of a heart attack after separating from his wife.
Michael Carroll had several stepfathers as his mother married several different men. He said one of them would lock him in an apartment after beating him. He admits he is dyslexic, has ADHD, and was barely literate when he graduated from high school.
Michael CarrollCarroll began living a life of immorality at a very young age due to the lack of parental supervision. At the age of 13, he was convicted of petty theft and sent to Hollesley Bay Prison in Suffolk, where he is said to have learned to read and write.
Win the lottery
It didn’t take long for Michael Carroll to learn he was the lucky winner, matching numbers 5, 28, 32, 39, 42, 48 and the bonus number 21 on his ticket. After winning the lottery, Michael Carroll made several promises, including maintaining good behavior and spending wisely, and would only buy a three-bedroom house near a lake where he would go fishing.
At the time of his jackpot win, he was working as a garbage collector and was pregnant. Michael Carroll did not have a bank account when he won but was advised by the lottery to open an account with Coutts. However, Coutts rejected his application due to his criminal record.
At that time, the young man did not keep his promise and started many unsuccessful projects. As a Rangers FC fan, Michael Carroll invested up to £1 million of his winnings through Rangers Financial Management, where the football club received a regulated share of the profits on the financial services they traded.
One smart investment he made was to set up an investment bond worth €3.9 million, which generates monthly income. The aim is to only use the money from the regular account and then switch to the bond if the money runs out.
Michael Carroll did not forget his family, even though he was not close to them. He revealed that he gave €1 million to his mother, sister (only one of them) and aunt. Unfortunately, this act of generosity cost him nearly a third of his prize money.
While he admits he does not regret giving them the money, he has a different view that the amount should have been lower, perhaps around £259,000 each. He also had problems with blackmailers while staying at one of the mansions he bought in Swaffham. They threatened him for reasons unknown and even killed his five rottweilers. A frightened Michael Carroll paid them around £130,000 to stop harassing his family.
Personal life
As mentioned above, Michael Carroll was a father-to-be when he won the lottery. He married the mother of his child, Sandra, but the marriage failed because he openly admitted to his promiscuity.
Sandra Caroll mentioned that Michael did not even hide the fact that he slept with prostitutes and used drugs. She filed for divorce, Michael Carroll approved the papers and paid Sandra about 1.4 million euros in spousal support.
His wild lifestyle continued after the end of his marriage, and he never forgot to party all night, spending around 50,000 euros per night on a party.
Additionally, he has been seen participating in lucrative activities such as a 2005 celebrity boxing match with Mark Smith, former star of the TV show Gladiators.
Michael Carroll is currently married to Leonia Carroll.
