Gwen Shamblin is the subject of a new HBO Max documentary, The Downhill Road: God, Greed, and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin. Gwen married David Shamblin in 1978; had two children; divorced in 2018. That same year, Gwen married William Joseph Lara, an actor.
Regardless, both Michael and Elizabeth are said to have held leadership roles in their mother’s church; Michael helped lead worship services and perform music for the church and Elizabeth led the Remnant Fellowship youth group.
Unlike his sister Elizabeth, who remained loyal to her mother’s church, Michael was often absent from home throughout his adult life. Once, when he needed to pursue his music career. Other times, due to Michael’s struggles with mental health, multiple infidelity, and fluctuating weight, his church involvement fluctuated over time.
In fact, a former member of the Remnant Fellowship recounted The Way Down that Michael felt trapped by his familial obligations to the Remnant Fellowship.

Little is known about Michael Shamblin’s whereabouts, and his involvement with Remnant Fellowship Church is difficult to determine. However, his website seems to indicate that he continues to produce music and serve as one of the worship leaders at Remnant Fellowship.
Furthermore, former church members also revealed in Part Two of The Way Down that he had divorced his wife; that his name had also been completely removed from the church’s website.
