Monica Elizabeth Crowley was born in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, on September 19, 1968. She is the daughter of James Francis Crowley and his wife, although her mother’s name is not widely known. Crowley has a sister named Jocelyn Crowley, a professor of public policy at Rutgers University.
Crowley grew up in Warren Township, New Jersey and graduated from Watchung Hills Regional High School in 1986. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science from Colgate University and a Ph.D. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Columbia University in 2000. Monica Crowley began her career in the mid-1990s, writing regularly for the New York Post. She has contributed to prominent publications, including The New Yorker, The Washington Times, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times and Baltimore Sun. During this time, she also worked as a commentator for National Public Radio’s Morning Edition.
In 2002, Crowley began hosting her nationally syndicated radio show, The Monica Crowley Show. She is also a regular contributor to The John Batchelor Show. Beginning in 1996, Crowley joined Fox News Channel as a political and foreign affairs analyst, and she occasionally replaced Sean Hannity on the network’s Hannity show.
She then joined MSNBC in 2004, co-hosting Connected: Coast to Coast. Over the years, Crowley has made many television appearances, including as an occasional panelist on Fox News Channel’s Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld.
