Move over Brian Steel, There’s a new lawyer in the YSL trial making headlines

Social media has recently gone crazy over Young Thug’s attorney Brian Steel, who has made a name for himself representing the rapper in the Young Slime Life case, the longest-running criminal trial in Georgia.

However, it seems like there’s a new lawyer now in the public spotlight. Criminal defense attorney Doug Weinstein, representing Deamonte Kendrick (Yak Gotti) in the YSL case, has recently become the face of several memes and social media crazes due to his easy charm and seemingly tight relationships with its customers.

Weinstein himself was active on social media, commenting on the viral moment in which the courtroom underwent analysis to determine whether the lyrics to the song “He fell down the curb” were whether the evidence is admissible or not.

“This is one of the big problems when using lyrics,” he wrote. “Sometimes and often words are used only because they rhyme, not because they are recounting actual events.”

Bingo. This is one of the big problems when using lyrics. Pay special attention when the examiner mentions that children rhyme better than sidewalks.

This moment crystallizes the problem that sometimes and often words are only used because they rhyme, not because they… https://t.co/mB7XJ5inJh

The racketeering trial began in November 2023 after Young Thug was arrested in May 2022. Even though Thug is officially home, co-defendants like Yak Gotti continue to fight for his innocence yours.

Weinstein noted Atlanta news first that his client “fully intends to take this case to a jury and receive our verdict of not guilty and go home,” facing 12 counts of racketeering, murder, guns, drugs and street gang membership.

Meanwhile, Thug is enjoying the fruits of his freedom. He reunited with longtime girlfriend Mariah the Scientist and even appeared as a guest via FaceTime for one of Steel’s lectures at Emory Law School.

Thug gave a speech encouraging law school students to become defense attorneys, saying “I think it’s important to help people get out of their situations… Everyone makes mistakes, we We are human,” he shared. “And I feel like we need more people like Brian Steel on this earth.”

Both Steel and Weinstein draw attention to a larger dialogue about the sacred relationship between attorney and client.
