Nadia Nakai, born Nadia Nakai Kandava on 18 May 1990 in South Africa, to a South African father and a Zimbabwean mother. Although her parents remain anonymous, it is known that her father’s surname is Kandava, and her mother’s is Dlamini.

At the age of 16, Nadia changed her last name from Kandava to Dlamini to preserve her Zimbabwean heritage. In an interview, she shared that her parents separated when she was young and she was raised by her mother. Despite the separation, Nadia maintains a good relationship with her parents.

In 2024, Nadia reunites with her father after 30 years. The reunion takes place at a Spur restaurant in Boksburg, South Africa, described as “healthy” by Nadia. Her father contacted her after the tragic death of her boyfriend, AKA, and Nadia said it was a nice meeting.
