Early life and education
Hajia Nana Shettima, the second woman, was born in Kano State on 2 July 1975. Her father, Alhaji Usman Alkali, is a Kanuri from Borno State, and her mother’s name is Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Albashir. She is her father’s third child.
Nana Shettima started school at a very early age, attending a Islamic School in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state. She then joined Lamisula 1 Primary School in Maiduguri, where she obtained her first certificate in 1988.

After completing primary school, Nana Shettima attended Government Girls College, Maiduguri, where she completed her secondary education in 1993. She then studied English Language and Literature at University of MaiduguriBachelor of Arts (Honours) 2006.
Career
With the unwavering support of her husband, Hajiya Nana Shettima started a compassionate mission to help orphans and widows. In 2018, she founded Integrated kindergarten in Maiduguri, bringing comfort and care to those who have experienced loss in Borno state.
Undeterred and unfazed by security reports, Nana Shettima travelled to Chibok to console the parents of the abducted schoolgirls, providing them with much-needed moral support, even at the cost of missing a meeting with the first lady in Abuja.
As the First Lady of Borno State, Nana Shettima has been actively involved in humanitarian initiatives. She has founded SWOT Foundation in 2012, empowering widows and orphans. Additionally, she founded Integrated kindergartenprovide free education for children in difficult circumstances.
Nana Shettima’s influential advocacy extends to protecting the rights of women and children, fighting crimes such as rape, sex trafficking and drug abuse. As a distinguished member of the National Council for Women’s Development, her dedication is to creating an equal and happy society for all.
