Early life and education

Hajia Nana Shettima, the second woman, was born in Kano State on 2 July 1975. Her father, Alhaji Usman Alkali, is a Kanuri from Borno State, and her mother’s name is Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Albashir. She is her father’s third child.

Nana Shettima started school at a very early age, attending a Islamic School in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state. She then joined Lamisula 1 Primary School in Maiduguri, where she obtained her first certificate in 1988.

After completing primary school, Nana Shettima attended Government Girls College, Maiduguri, where she completed her secondary education in 1993. She then studied English Language and Literature at University of MaiduguriBachelor of Arts (Honours) 2006.
