Nicole Scherzinger reveals Pussycat Dolls left her with sleep problems and body dysmorphic disorder

Nicole Scherzinger is looking back on her time with The Pussycat Dolls.

In a conversation with The Sunday Times, Scherzinger recalled her busy work schedule while working in a girl group.

“So with Dolls, it was a very overwhelming experience, right?” Scherzinger describes her time with the group. “It was very difficult because I was really learning about myself along the way.”

According to the singer, the schedule “never allows for sleep”. For Scherzinger, the constant touring schedule is a “recipe for disaster” that leaves her with “sleep problems”.

However, she noted how the industry has changed since then, saying it is “a lot different” now because of the regulations that have been put in place.

“It’s like ‘Work ’til they pass out,'” asserts Scherzinger.

As if her unhealthy sleeping habits weren’t enough, Scherzinger also claimed that her time with the band left her with body dysmorphia.

“It was difficult for me at first because I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin,” Scherzinger admitted, noting that she “didn’t feel taken advantage of at all” because she was “in control” of what I am doing.

However, it’s not all negative for the talented singer. She notes that while she doesn’t like most of the clothes she wears, she does have more creative control.

“I want to look like Will.i.am and Gwen Stefani. So I have to wear clothes that I feel empowered in,” Scherzinger added. “And then the girls have to choose what they want, too.”

This isn’t the first time Scherzinger has been open about problems within the team. In an interview with People, Scherzinger said that their group “never formed like the Spice Girls.”

“Our team was set up so that I would be the midfielder, and I would lead us,” she confessed. “The girls are incredibly strong, talented dancers, and I had to work really hard to be able to stand next to them.”

The group is composed by Scherzinger, who leads the singing, supported by dancers Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Kimberly Wyatt, Carmit Bachar and Ashley Roberts. Since Scherzinger was the group’s lead singer, most of the recordings featured only her vocals.

Sadly, the band won’t be back anytime soon as their reunion has caused a lot of controversy, including among the group’s founders, Jimmy Iovine and Robert Antin.
