Nicole Sullivan (born April 21, 1970) is an American actress and comedian. She is best known for her six seasons (1995–2001) on the sketch comedy show MADtv. She also played Holly Shumpert on the CBS sitcom The King of Queens for five seasons (2001–2005, 2007).

On Scrubs, Nicole Sullivan played recurring character Jill Tracy. She played the heroic Mira Nova on Disney/Buzz Pixar’s Lightyear of Star Command and the villainous Shego on Disney Channel’s Kim Possible. She had recurring roles on Family Guy and played Franny Robinson on Disney’s Meet the Robinsons.

Rita Rocks, her Lifetime television series, aired from 2008 to 2009. From 2008 to 2013, she played Marlene the Otter in The Penguins of Madagascar. Lyn Mettler, Jules’ (Courteney Cox) therapist, was her character in the comedy Cougar Town. In 2012, she played Lyla in the Disney Channel movie Let It Shine.

Early life and education

Nicole Julianne Sullivan was born on April 21, 1970 in Manhattan, New York, United States. She is the younger sister of Jennifer Sullivan and the daughter of former New York State Representative Edward C. Sullivan and businesswoman Madonna Sullivan.

She began dancing at the age of seven and went on to perform on Broadway with First All-Theatre. She graduated from Middleburgh High School in 1982, where she was class treasurer, soccer team member, and student council member.

Nicole Sullivan majored in theater at Northwestern University after graduating in 1987 and wrote skits and plays for the student theater. She attended the British-American Drama Academy in London during her junior year and joined the Greenwich Shakespeare Company. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career after graduating from Northwestern University with honors.

Career

When MADtv first aired in 1995, Nicole Sullivan was part of the original cast. She created a variety of characters, most famously the scheming Lady Vancome. Her other characters included X-News reporter Amy, dim-witted Antonia, Eracists leader Debbie, News at 6’s Diane Lawyer-Trabajo (pronounced “tribal”), racist country singer Darlene McBride, and Latina bimbo Lida.

She performed with Michael McDonald in a MADtv parody of the production of an audition tape for Law & Order, criticizing their acting abilities; she later guest-starred in the episode “Contact” of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season one. Creating Music magazine featured her in its November/December 2009 issue.

From 2001 to 2005, Nicole Sullivan played Holly Shumpert. She returned to the role in the final season in 2007. Holly worked as a dog walker for much of the show. The Heffernan family paid her to “walk” Arthur, Carrie’s father, to help him get some exercise and stay out of trouble for a while.

Turanga Leela, one of the main characters on the animated series Futurama, was originally cast as Nicole Sullivan, but the role was replaced by Katey Sagal before the episode aired. She has voiced Marlene the Otter in The Penguins of Madagascar, the first television series in the Madagascar franchise, which aired on Nickelodeon, Shego in Kim Possible, Joan of Arc in Clone High, Mira Nova in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and Joan in the Family Guy episode I Take Thee Quagmire, among others. She was also cast in a pilot episode called Me and My Needs, which ABC rejected.

In Meet the Robinsons, she played Franny Robinson. Nicole Sullivan also provided her voice in the video game Monsters, Inc. She played Luna in Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, a video game released in 2007.
