Early life
Nnamdi Kanu was born in Isiama Afara Ukwu, a small town in Umuahia, Abia State in southeastern Nigeria.
His father was a king. He is the traditional ruler of Isiama Afara Ukwu. He was born in 1967 on September 25.
His father’s name is Eze Israel Okwu Kanu (JP) and his mother’s name is Ugoeze Nnenne Kanu.
After earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science, he went to the UK to continue his studies.
While in England, he studied at London Metropolitan University and earned a doctorate in Political Science.
Education
Nnamdi Kanu attended Library Avenue Primary School, Umuahia and received his First School Leaving Certificate. He then went on to study at Government College, Umuahia and obtained the West African Secondary School Certificate.

After completing his primary and secondary education, Nnamdi Kanu studied at the University of Nigeria Nsukka and graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Political Science before going to the United Kingdom for further studies.

Career
Nnamdi Kanu’s clear strategy was to employ civil disobedience to advance his people’s demands for freedom.
He is the director of a UK registered radio station called Radio Biafra.
On September 5, 2015, Nnamdi Kanu was a guest speaker at the World Igbo Congress held in Los Angeles, California, USA, where he told his audience: “we need guns and we need bullets to have freedom.”
In a June 2017 interview, he explained his comments that he requested bullets and guns from a group of Nigerians based in the United States to defend himself against incessant attacks on The Igbos of Fulani herdsmen are now reoccurring in Biafra land.
On 14 October 2015, Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in Lagos and charged with treason by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. He has been detained for more than a year, despite multiple court orders ruling on his release.
When appearing in court, Nnamdi Kanu often appeared wearing a Jewish prayer shawl and head covering. He told the court that he believed in Judaism and considered himself Jewish and had at times led his Biafrans to various Jewish prayers and religious observances.
In June 2021, Nnamdi Kanu was recaptured and brought back to Nigeria. He was stopped on June 27, 2021. He is expected to be re-arraigned before the Federal Supreme Court for further trial.
