early life
Nneka Egbuna was born and raised in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, to a German mother and a Nigerian father.
However, she moved to Hamburg, Germany in 1999 to study anthropology at university.
Later, in order to pay for her tuition, she began performing in underground dance halls.
Profession
Nneka Egbuna first came to public attention in 2004 when she opened for dancehall reggae star Sean Paul at Hamburg’s Stadtpark, to much acclaim.

Afterwards, she announced her intention to record her first album. After releasing her debut EP, The Uncomfortable Truth, she went on her first tour in April 2005, performing in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
In 2005, Nneka Egbuna’s debut album, Victim of Truth, was released in Europe, Nigeria and Japan. The album received rave reviews from the press, with the UK’s Sunday Times later calling Victim of Truth “the most overlooked album of the year”.
Although the record was well received, it failed to chart. Despite this, Nneka Egbuna enjoyed a sustained and successful period of touring, performing with fellow labelmate Patrice Bart-Williams.
Nneka Egbuna also performed on the German television network WDR in 2006. She completed the single “Gypsy” and a dance group performed a choreography they had created especially for the song.
The dance company is supported by the Schlauberger organization.
