Early life and education
Yin Shao Loong was born in 1976 or 1977 in Malaysia. He is of Chinese ethnicity, although he has not revealed any details about his parents and siblings.

They were married on 5 August 2022, in a simple ceremony officiated by Anwar Ibrahim at his Sungai Long, Kajang residence. They had known each other for a long time through their political work.

Yin Shao Loong is a senior research associate at Khazanah Research Institute (KRI), a research organization focused on economic and social issues in Malaysia.
He joined KRI in 2018 and is involved in a number of projects related to industrial policy, climate change and future technologies.

Prior to joining KRI, Yin Shao Loong served as director of strategic communications at the Selangor Menteri Besar Office from 2014 to 2018.
