Offset Faces $1.6 Million Tax Debt Months Before Cardi B Files for Divorce: Is She in Trouble Too?

Before his wife Cardi B filed for divorce after seven years of marriage, Offset was facing significant financial hardship in the form of two massive tax debts totaling $1.6 million.

The 32-year-old Migos rapper was hit with a federal tax lien for $1,575,266 in April, the US Sun reported.

A court official said Offset’s debt remains unpaid and uncollected. However, it’s worth noting that Cardi is not involved in the lien.

Additionally, according to the source, in a separate mortgage contract registered with the state of California on June 11, Offset appears to have an outstanding debt of $32,963.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, has a net worth of $28 million, while his fiancée Cardi has an estimated net worth of $80 million.

Cardi filed for divorce from the “Open It Up” rapper on Wednesday. The move, first reported by Page Six, comes after a seven-year marriage between the hip-hop luminaries.

Cardi is reportedly seeking custody of her 5-year-old daughter Kulture and 2-year-old son Wave.

According to the “Bodak Yellow” rapper’s representative, who spoke to Billboard, the divorce filing “is not based on any specific incident, things have been going on for a long time and have been amicable.”

A day after filing, the “WAP” hitmaker happily announced the good news that she’s expecting her third child on Instagram on Thursday.

Cardi revealed her baby bump and wrote a heartfelt message to her third child on the way, expressing gratitude for bringing her “more love” and “more life” and giving her “strength.”

She added, seemingly referring to the end of her marriage, “Every ending comes with a new beginning!”

This divorce filing marks the second time Cardi has sought to end her marriage to Offset since their 2017 wedding.

Although they told fans in September 2020 that infidelity wasn’t the cause, rumors of infidelity, especially Offset’s, haunted their relationship from the start.

However, just weeks after initially filing for divorce, the “I Like It” rapper revealed that she and Offset had resolved their issues, leading to the dismissal of the lawsuit in early November 2020.

In the following years, their relationship endured many challenges, including rumors of infidelity and public disagreements on social media.

The mother-of-two finally announced her separation by revealing her single status during a live broadcast in December 2023, saying: “I’ve been single for a while now.”
