Early life and education

On April 6, 1976, Greg Locke was born at Donelson Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. His father was incarcerated when he was young, and his mother remarried when he was five; he had a tumultuous relationship with his stepfather.

Greg Locke was sent to a foster home at age 15 after several arrests, where he converted to Christianity. He began preaching as a teenager and attended Mount Juliet High School, graduating in 1997.

Greg Locke then attended Union College in Jackson, Tennessee, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies in 2001. In 2005, he received a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

In 2006, Greg Locke became pastor of Global Vision Bible Church (GVBC), which had about 30 members when he took over as pastor; by 2018, the membership had grown to hundreds of thousands.

Personal life

Greg Locke met his first wife, Melissa Biggers, when he was a ward of the state at Good Shepherd Children’s Home; Melissa Biggers was a member of the facility’s staff. They married in 1995.

They are the parents of four children, two of whom are adopted. In a video shared on Facebook in January 2018, Greg Locke announced that they were divorcing, and the divorce was finalized in May.

In 2006, Greg Locke founded the Global Vision Baptist Church. The church officially split from the New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist movement in 2011 and changed its name to the Global Vision Bible Church. The church is non-denominational and is predominantly African American, with many converts from Islam.

The church is located in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, near Nashville. Greg Locke preaches on television and radio and tours internationally for GVBC, preaching at churches across North America and Africa. He was named Union University’s Outstanding Young Alumni in 2008 and received the Union Distinguished Alumni Award in 2015 for his ministry at GVBC.

Greg Locke first gained national prominence in 2016 after posting a Facebook video criticizing Target’s bathroom policy changes. As of April 2022, he had millions of followers on social media. He was permanently removed from Twitter in September 2021.
