Paul Mescal has booked his next movie and it’s a big one.
The actor is set to join the cast of the upcoming Beatles movie, director Ridley Scott has revealed.
According to Hollywood ReporterScott revealed Mescal’s schedule may prevent him from appearing in Scott’s upcoming film Dog star. When Scott was asked if Mescal would star in the film, as this was recently reported, Scott confirmed this to be true before correcting himself and explaining that Mescal’s schedule may cause him to cannot appear in the new movie.
“Yes,” Scott said in response to a question about whether Mescal would star Dog star. However, he then added a bombshell.
“Maybe. Paul’s really busy, working for The Beatles next. So I might have to let him go,” he said.
Mescal’s role in the upcoming Beatles films has yet to be officially announced, however, the outlet reports that Mescal will reportedly play Paul McCartney.
There will be four films released in director Sam Mendes’ ambitious project, one of which focuses on a member of the band: McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
Last month, Mescal spoke with Entertainment tonight where he was asked how he would feel about playing McCartney amid the ongoing rumours.
“It will be an incredible story worth remembering,” he said. To have Sam Mendes attached to direct, honestly, it would be a dream come true.”
When asked directly if he won the role, Mescal did not provide an answer.
“No, no, no – we’re not going there,” he replied.
There’s another big name attached to an upcoming Beatles project. According to the man himself, Barry Keoghan was revealed to play Starr.
The iconic drummer recently said Entertainment tonight that Keoghan will play him in upcoming films.
“I think it’s great,” Starr said when asked about her role. “I believe he’s taking drum lessons somewhere — hopefully not too much,” he quipped.
The upcoming films will be produced by Sony Pictures. All members of the Beatles as well as the estates of Lennon and Harrison granted full musical and life rights to the project, making it a landmark moment in Beatles storytelling.
