Chief Pete Edochie, a Bangladeshi (born 7 March 1947), is a famous Nigerian actor and television personality. He is considered one of the most talented actors in Africa and a father figure to aspiring actors.

He has been awarded the Industry Merit Award by Africa Magic and the Lifetime Achievement Award by the African Movie Academy. Although he is an experienced administrator and broadcaster.

Pete Edochie rose to fame in the 1980s when he played the lead character Okonkwo in the NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s bestselling novel Things Fall Apart.

Pete Edochie is a Catholic of Igbo descent from Nigeria. In 2003, he was awarded the Order of Niger by President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Early life and education

Pete Edochie was born in Enugu, Nigeria on March 7, 1947. He is from Anambra State but grew up in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Rita Edochie is the sister-in-law of Pete Edochie and the aunt of Yul Edochie and Muna Obiekwe.

He is still alive, never mind the rumors of his burial. He has a brother named Tony Edochie.

He started his primary education at St. Patrick and St. James Primary School in Zaria. He then proceeded to St. John’s College for his secondary education.

Subsequently, Edoch entered the British Academy of Journalism and Television and participated in some overseas courses.

Pete Edochie started his career at the broadcasting company at the age of 20. He started as a junior program assistant and rose through the ranks to become a director, serving in various director positions. However, he left the radio station to join the Nigerian film industry because of the government’s decision to politicize the affairs of the radio station.

Before he entered the Nigerian film industry, Pete Edochie had already starred in Things Fall Apart and even won international awards and recognition.

He made his stage debut in 1962, aged 15, while a student at St John’s College, in William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice.

Thereafter, Pete Edochie came into the limelight for his role as the protagonist Okonkwo in the NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s work Things Fall Apart in the 1980s.

In 2009, Pete Edochie was kidnapped and later released unharmed by his kidnappers.

In 2020, Pete Edochie played the leading role in the movie “Fatal Pride”, which caused a lot of controversy.
